1- 2 Meaning of “strong yen” and “weak yen”

A "strong yen" refers to the value of the Japanese yen in comparison to other currencies, whereas a "weak yen" refers to the  value of the Japanese yen in comparison to other currencies. Say, the yen rises if the US Dollar / yen exchange rate falls from 1 US Dollar = 100 yen to 90 yen one month later and depreciates if it falls to 110 yen.
