1-3a. Why Doesn’t the Yen / US Dollar or the US Dollar / Euro Exist?

The combination of the US dollar and the Japanese yen is “US dollar / yen,” and the combination of the euro and the US dollar is “Euro / US dollar,” as can be seen in general news, newspapers, and a list of currency pairings that may be traded by FX businesses. As you can see, currency pairs are displayed in a consistent manner.

USD / JPY and EUR / EUR are available at every Forex broker, but JPY / USD and USD / EUR are not. Why isn’t there a Yen-to-US-Dollar or a US-Dollar-to-Euro pair?

Regardless matter which currency comes first or later, the exchange rate of two different currencies remains constant. If 1 US dollar equals 100 yen, 1 yen equals 0.01 US dollar in the case of US dollars and yen. Both US dollars / yen and yen / US dollars have the same exchange rate when it comes to exchanging US dollars for yen.

THE YEN/US DOLLAR CURRENCY PAIR, ON THE OTHER HAND, IS USUALLY NOT TRADED IN THE MARKET. NOT ONLY IN FOREX, BUT ALSO IN THE FOREX MARKET.

This is because it is normal in the world of international exchange for the US dollar and the Japanese yen to trade under the notation “us dollar / yen” with the exchange rate displayed as 1 US dollar = 00 yen, implying that it has been decided to do so.
